The Most Gorgeous Lady Blessington – Premiere

Tangent Theatre Company in association with the Wallace Collection presents a new play by Martyn Wade

Jilly Bond reprises her role as Lady Blessington from Chrome Audio’s ‘hugely entertaining’ (The Guardian) A Journey through France and A Journey through Italy.

Sir Thomas Lawrence’s portrait of the famous society beauty hangs in the Front State Room at the Wallace Collection.  But who was Lady Blessington? A 19th century newshound follows her trail from Tipperary to Manchester Square revealing the story of the woman behind the portrait.  The beautiful daughter of a poor Irish landowner becomes a renowned society hostess, attracting the leading literary and society figures of the day to her salon – Dickens, Bulwer Lytton, Disraeli – until scandal and financial ruin threatens.

Starring Jilly Bond and Oliver Senton with live music by Mary O’Connor
